In the 80s, the State committed itself to the creation of Centres Chorégraphiques Nationaux (CCN). (National Choreographic Centres). They result from a cultural policy of national planning joining the state and the local authorities, and to date, France has got 19 active CCNs. These organisations, mainly under the directorship of choreographers, provide the creation and the promotion of choreographic works together with public awareness ventures, training, research and artistic support (Open Studio). A large number of CCNs have joined an association: the Association des Centres Chorégraphiques Nationaux (ACCN) created in 1995.
